First Impressions Count.

My first trip was a deployment on the U.S.S. Henry B. Wilson enroute to Yankee Station in 1969, which is of course only a quick sprint for a destroyer to Subic Bay.  On arrival, the first thing you notice is the solid wall of muggy heat as you cross the gangplank.  Normally we deck force creatures (being a thirsty bunch) would immediately depose ourselves to the E.M. club for a quick hit of drinks and enjoyment of the current band.  Since that moment in time was on or during my 19th birthday, whenever I celebrate a birthday I often think of the E.M. club at Subic.  No matter what else happens in life, one tends to never forget having rum & coke at 11 a.m. in the morning, listening to a band playing theme from Shaft.  All the while being accompanied by two lovely hostess' who just happen to magically appear to help you celebrate your 19th birthday.  At 11 a.m. in the morning.
